I have hosted the 1st Tee at the DP World Tour Championship since 2017. I first attended the tournament in 2009 when it launched and since then, the tournament has grown into a mammoth golfing event.

I have been lucky enough to attend all but two DP World Tour Championships, first in broadcasting roles for local radio and then MC'ing at the event. With all that experience I can share with you why it is one of the best golf events in the world to attend.

The Earth Course at Dubai's Jumeirah Golf Estates is the venue. The course provides a fabulous setting for the season ender, and given the golf courses' name and the calibre of tournament, the rather appropriate line of "The Greatest Show on Earth" lends itself perfectly for the DP World Tour's season climax.

At the event, the top-ranked players on tour throughout the season will all be battling it out to lift the DP World Tour Championship trophy as well as those at the top of the rankings, fighting to be crowned Europe's number one golfer.

I'm thrilled to have been asked back for 2025 in what promises to be another step up for the tournament that manages to improve year on year. Given my many years of attending the event, here are my 5 reasons why you should add it to your sports travel list.

5 reasons to attend the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai

The DP World Tour Championship is where you will find the best golfers of the season all in one field

The DP World Tour Championship is a tournament featuring the best-performing golfers of the season. Any one of them can win the tournament, and those at the top of the rankings will be fighting to be crowned the DP World Tour's top golfer of the season. So, you get two competitions for the price of one at the DP World Tour Championship.

Past tournament champions include Rory McIlory, Colin Morikawa, Matt Fitzpatrick and Jon Rahm whilst former players who have won the Harry Vardon trophy in Dubai, awarded to Europe's best performing golfer of the year, include Rory McIlroy, Luke Donald, Colin Morikawa and Tommy Fleetwood.

The DP World Tour Championship is also one of five Rolex Series events of the season, meaning it is one of the most prestigious events of the year with bigger prize money.

You can get tickets for free to attend the DP World Tour Championship

There aren't many sporting events of this calibre around the world that offer free tickets. But the DP World Tour Championship does. It's a brilliant thing to know about, especially if you are planning flights and accommodation. Us sports travellers always like to find a affordable sporting event to attend and this is one of the best for value for money.

You can 'buy' your free tickets for Thursday and Friday tournament days right now here. The general admission price for Saturday and Sunday is just $37

As well as the free tickets available for Thursday and Friday, you can also make it a week to remember buy buying tickets to some of the best locations around the golf course including the Ticket + and Hospitality areas. You can have a look at the options here.

The DP World Tour Championship provides a brilliant atmosphere, stunning location and gorgeous sunshine

The atmosphere at the DP World Tour Championship is one of the best you'll find at a golf event

November is a brilliant time to visit Dubai. The summer heat is beginning to die down and whilst it is still hot, it is more manageable than mid-summer. Hats, sun lotion and sunglasses are still vital additions to your packing of course, but it's hard to beat the setting of the Earth Course in the sunshine.

The Earth Course is a glistening golf course with its vibrant green fairways. Ghaf, date and palm trees line those fairways and the white of the bunker sand provides visual stimulation in every direction. There are easy-to-navigate walkways around the 18 holes and plenty of food & beverage (and toilet) stops along the way.

As for the atmosphere, the Earth Course knows how to party. Well, it is the final tournament of the year after all, so there is always a great vibe during the Championship with live music bookending each day's play.

Some of the great locations to experience the best of the atmosphere during the DP World Tour Championship include the:

  • 1st Tee. This is where you'll find me and take it from me, we like to have fun with some singing, chanting and cheers for the best players on Tour. Plus we are always joined by special guests from the world of sport. Last year snooker player Dennis Taylor came for a chat.

  • Championship Village, where you'll find live entertainment throughout the day, loads of food & beverage options, activations and games to play, live coverage of the tournament and live music once play has been completed each day.

  • Greatest Bar on Earth is the iconic bar terrace located opposite the 17th island green. Its huge terrace includes live music, great vantage points and a partisan atmosphere throughout the day. Something that has to be experienced!

The DP World Tour Championship takes place in Dubai

Dub ai is home to the DP World Tour Championship

Having called Dubai home for many years, I can tell you the best places to visit whilst you are in the city for the DP World Tour Championship.

Here are a couple of my favourite hang outs:

  • To eat, make sure you visit Ravi's, one of the city's best street food restaurants serving the best Pakistani curry you will ever experience. Ravi's is located in the Satwa area of Dubai, which is one of the oldest parts of the city and will give you a reel sense of what old Dubai is like. Not only is the food magnificent, you will eat like a king and pay no more than $20 for a meal.

  • For the beach, my favourite is Sunset Beach, located just to the north of the Burj Al Arab. It's a free public beech and is full of cafes, beach volleyball courts and views of some of the city's most iconic hotels.

  • And don't forget that Dubai is much more than the city. Hire a car for the day and make your way to Hatta, where you can spend a day hiking or cycling. Hatta is full of easy-to-manage hiking routes, cycling trails and much more all located at Hatta Wadi Hub. It's well worth a visit one day and is around a one hour drive from the city.

And to add to all of that, who doesn't like some November sunshine?

The DP World Tour Championship is a brilliant family experience

For a family holiday to Dubai, there is clearly loads to do but to add the DP World Tour Championship to your itinerary won't be something you regret. It's a great chance for the youngsters to get close to the most famous golfers in the world, and be inspired by the talent the players have.

Away from the course there is plenty to keep the kids entertained from golf clinics, games and player meet and greets. You never know, you may just inspire your little ones to be the next Rory McIlroy!

And there you have it. Five great reasons to attend the DP World Tour Championship. From great weather, free tickets, a roaring atmosphere, an iconic city and a superb family day out, you will have a great time.

In 2025, the DP World Tour Championship takes places between the 13th and 16th November. And I hope to see you there!
