Why Sports Travel Tom
Sports Travel Tom is built on first-hand experience.
I’ve spent my career working in sport and media around the world — from presenting at major events to travelling independently and experiencing sport as a fan.
Along the way, I realised something.
Sport has a unique way of revealing a place.
Not just through headline events or famous venues, but in everything around them — the journey, the people, the rituals, the landscapes and the small moments that give a destination its character.
Sports Travel Tom exists to help you travel better for sport.
With clear, honest and practical insight, I aim to help you decide:
-
where to go
-
how to get there
-
how to get tickets
-
and whether it’s actually worth it
Sometimes that means major global events.
Other times it’s a local match, a trail, a coastline or an experience you wouldn’t find without looking a little closer.
This isn’t about ticking things off a list.
It’s about understanding places through sport and adventure - and giving you the confidence to experience them for yourself.

First thoughts
Buying a Day 5 Test Match ticket is unlike buying almost any other sporting event.
In this episode, I head to The Oval to find out whether one of sport's most unpredictable tickets is actually worth buying.
With no guarantee there will even be a fifth day of cricket, is it a brilliant budget-friendly way to experience Test cricket... or simply too much of a gamble?
It turns out Day 5 tickets offer much more than just low prices, with refund protection if play ends early and the chance to experience one of cricket's most iconic grounds for a fraction of the usual cost.
This is part of my London series, exploring the city's sporting events and experiences. You can read my complete Day 5 Test Match guide below.
A trusted guide, not a highlights reel
Sports Travel Tom is shaped by years working inside global sport — as a presenter, reporter and event host — and just as many years travelling independently, planning trips the same way you would.
The goal isn’t hype or shortcuts.
It’s clarity, timing, context and honest perspective — so you can decide where to go, when it’s worth it, and how to do it properly.
Based in the UK. Always on the move.
