Why Sports Travel Tom
Hi, I’m Tom Bushell.
I’ve spent my career working in sport and media around the world — from presenting on major stages to travelling independently and experiencing events as a fan, often far from the spotlight.
Along the way, I realised something.
Sport has a remarkable way of revealing a place. Not just through headline events or famous venues, but in the moments around them — the journey there, the people you meet, the rituals, the landscapes and adventures that shape a destination’s character.
Sports Travel Tom exists to help people travel better for sport — with honesty, context and practical insight. It’s about discovering destinations through the sports events that make them, and the adventures that bring them to life.
Sometimes that’s a major global event. Other times it’s a local match, a trail, a coastline or a community experience you wouldn’t find without looking a little closer.
This isn’t about ticking things off a list.
It’s about understanding places through sport and lived experience — and giving you the confidence to go and experience them for yourself.

A trusted guide, not a highlights reel
Sports Travel Tom is shaped by years working inside global sport — as a presenter, reporter and event host — and just as many years travelling independently, planning trips the same way you would.
The goal isn’t hype or shortcuts.
It’s clarity, timing, context and honest perspective — so you can decide where to go, when it’s worth it, and how to do it properly.
